| OPRE Research Discretionary Funding Announcement |
OPRE has recently published four research discretionary funding announcements. Three announcements are Child Care Research, all with applications due May 13th. The fourth is for Head Start Research, with a due date of June 16th.
Child Care Research Scholars

Eligible Applicants: Doctoral-level graduate students enrolled in accredited public, State-controlled, and private institutions of higher education, including Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs).
This funding will support dissertation research, conducted in partnership with State Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) lead agencies, regarding child care policy issues. Applicants may apply for project periods up to two years and will be awarded up to $30,000 for the first year and up to $20,000 for the second year of the project. Four to six individual grants are expected to be awarded.

Eligible Applicants: State, Territory and Tribal governments
Funds will be provided for cooperative agreements to support Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) lead agencies' analyses of administrative data; data improvements, including linking data across programs; and measurement of the effects of CCDF on program outcomes. Applicants may apply for project periods up to three years and will be awarded up to $250,000 for the first year and up to $200,000 for each of the second and third years of the project. Three to four individual cooperative agreements are expected to be awarded.
Child Care and Early Education Research Connections

Eligible Applicants: Public and State-controlled institutions of higher education, Non-profits with 501(c)(3) IRS status (other than institutions of higher education), Private institutions of higher education, For-profit organizations, Small businesses, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions
Funds will be provided for a cooperative agreement to operate Child Care and Early Education Research Connections (CCEERC) (www.researchconnections.org) for five years. Applicants will be awarded up to $1,500,000 for the first year and up to $1,500,000 for each for the subsequent years for the duration of this cooperative agreement. One cooperative agreement is expected to be awarded.
Head Start Graduate Students Research Grants

Eligible Applicants: Doctoral-level graduate students enrolled in accredited public, State-controlled, and private institutions of higher education, including Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs).
Funds are provided for Graduate Student Research Grants to support dissertation research by advanced graduate students who are working in partnership with Head Start programs and with faculty mentors. Applicants may apply for project periods up to two years and will be awarded up to $25,000 per budget period, for a total not exceeding $50,000. Up to ten individual grants are expected to be awarded.

| Call for Papers - Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry |
The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry invites submissions for a special section/issue on Emotion Regulation, Risk, and Psychopathology. Submissions of all innovative work in this area are welcome, but of particular interest are empirical papers addressing (a) developmental perspectives on underlying neurobehavioral or physiological mechanisms of emotion regulation and dysregulation, (b) specification of links between emotional processes and psychopathology, (c) emotion regulation processes in family or peer contexts, (d) cultural variations in emotion regulation, or (e) interventions that address relations among emotion regulation and other core processes. Conceptual and theoretical papers as well as authoritative reviews of the literature that advance the field also will be considered.
The special section/issue will be edited by Kirby Deater-Deckard and Pamela Cole, and papers will be subjected to the normal refereeing process. There is a 6000 word limit (including Title page, Abstract, References, Tables and Figures). The deadline is October 1st 2008. Authors who intend to submit papers should notify the journal office in advance by contacting Sam Moore (sam.moore@acamh.org.uk). Call for Applications - Institute of Education Sciences |

Through its Social and Behavioral Context for Academic Learning Research Program, the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) intends to support research on interventions designed to improve social skills and behaviors that support academic and other important school-related outcomes in typically developing students from kindergarten through Grade 12. Under this research grant program, the Institute will fund research to (1) identify programs and practices that are associated with better social skills and behaviors that support academic learning, as well as mediators and moderators of the relations between these practices and student outcomes; (2) developing new programs and practices for improving social skills and behaviors that support academic learning; (3) evaluating fully developed programs and practices for improving social skills and behaviors that support academic learning through efficacy or replication trials; (4) evaluating the effectiveness of programs and practices for improving social skills and behaviors that support academic learning that are implemented at scale; and (5) developing and validating measures of teacher classroom management practices.

SRCD Names New Executive Director |
SRCD is proud to announce that Lonnie R. Sherrod will be its next Executive Director. Dr. Sherrod is a developmental psychologist currently at Fordham University where he is Professor of Psychology, Director of the Applied Developmental Psychology Program, and Co-Director of the Center on Action, Responsibility, and Evaluation Studies. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of the William T. Grant Foundation, Assistant Dean of the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research, and was on the staff of the Social Science Research Council.
Dr. Sherrod has been associated with SRCD in a number of roles since 1990 including membership on the Leadership Council and the Committee on Child Development, Public Policy, and Public Information for which he was also Chair. He is currently on the Publications Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the Social Policy Report, one of SRCD’s four publications. Dr. Sherrod has been active in other organizations as well, serving as Vice-President of the Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences; Chair of the Committee for Children, Youth, and Families with the American Psychological Association (APA); and Executive Council member for APA’s Division 7.

| The Journal of Genetic Psychology is devoted to research and theory in developmental psychology across the life span. Articles that concern educational, clinical, cross-cultural, and comparative issues related to development also are encouraged. Although the major focus of the journal is empirical research and the exposition and criticism of theory, applied and descriptive articles are occasionally published as well as brief reports, replications and refinements, and reviews of the literature.
We welcome all suitable manuscripts. Manuscripts are peer reviewed and the author receives notification of acceptance, need for revision, or rejection in approximately 3 months. Accepted manuscripts generally appear in the journal within 9 months of acceptance.
