Ethical Conduct
The Committee on Ethical Conduct, established in 1978, is responsible for reviewing and updating the Society's Ethical Standards for Research with Children (see the SRCD website for current statement of the Standards). It also provides oversight on issues that arise affecting research on children, such as the current movement towards providing national guidelines for institutional review boards (IRB's).
Ethnic and Racial
The Ethnic and Racial Issues Committee, formed 25 years ago, is responsible for the development and oversight of activities pertaining to the participation of minority scholars within the SRCD. They are also involved in promoting quality research on ethnic minority children and adolescents.
History
The History on Child Development Committee, founded in 1977, has documented important events in the 70 year history of SRCD, including special programming for the 50th (1983) and 70th (2003) anniversaries of the Society at its biennial meetings. The oral history project is also its responsibility. This project documents the lives of prominent persons in the field of child development, as well as their perceptions of the roles SRCD has played in the developmental field.
International Affairs
The International Affairs Committee, formed in 1990, documents progress in research from outside North America and works with individuals and organizations who pursue research on child development in all parts of the world.
Policy and Communications
The Committee on Policy and Communications, established in 1977, is responsible for issues and recommendations concerning policies affecting children as well as policies on funding for research on child development. It also works closely with the Office of Policy and Communications located in Washington, D.C..
Programs
The program committee is responsible for the Society's biennial meetings, held in the spring of odd-numbered years. It chooses presenters for the invited portion of the meeting and processes the submissions, from issuing the call to reviewing and selecting the accepted symposia, posters and discussion sessions.
Publications
The committee on publications is responsible for reviewing existing publications, evaluating proposals for modifications in publications, and for the establishment of any new publications. It also makes recommendations to Governing Council concerning new editors as terms of editors expire.
