ALL FORMATS

The Governing Council and Program Committee of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) invite you to submit for the 2011 Biennial Meeting to be held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal and the Intercontinental Montreal Hotel, March 31 - April 2, 2011. Preconference events will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2011.

The interdisciplinary and international character of SRCD is strongly supported through its Biennial Meetings. Empirical, theoretical, historical, and methodological submissions from investigators around the globe in all disciplines related to the field of child development are welcome. The Society also encourages submissions from students, both graduate and undergraduate.

SRCD normally does not accept material that has been presented or will be presented elsewhere. Exceptions may be made in cases where SRCD members have not had access to the information. Prior to submitting, a submitter of such a presentation should provide justification in an email message to the SRCD program office (programoffice@srcd.org).

Entering Data Into the Submission Website

Please note: (a) Integrative statements for submissions accepted for presentation will be available for viewing in the online program schedule. (b) It is essential to recognize that the text you enter for your submission is the text that will appear in the printed program book and in the online program schedule.

  1. You must enter a complete, formal name (e.g., Samuel T. Jones; H. Harrison Smith-Barton) rather than a nickname, current email address, and affiliation for each person. This requirement serves to uniquely identify a person included on your submission and ensures that he/she receives both an Author Information Verification email message and email communication regarding the decision status of the submission.

Author Information Verification Process. Within 4 weeks following the submission deadline for the Biennial Meeting, every person on all submissions will receive an email message requesting that he/she update and verify his/her contact and demographic information.
    • The message you receive will contain a unique link for access to the data associated with submission(s) that include your name.
    • The unique webpage that opens when you click on your unique link will offer the opportunity for you to apply for travel awards. Detailed information about eligibility requirements for the 2011 travel awards will be available on the SRCD Website (www.srcd.org) by August 1.
    • SRCD membership will be required to apply for any and all travel awards.
  2. Data entry and file upload guidelines:

    1. Titles: Use mixed case (upper-case only for the first letter of all words with 4 or more letters) and appropriate punctuation.
    2. Integrative Statements, Summaries, and Descriptions: Run a spell- and grammar-check in your word-processor, making sure that the "track changes" tool is not active, and all changes are accepted.
    3. File Uploads:
      • Make sure that editing has been incorporated into your integrative statement and summary so that they are in final form.
      • NEW: Files uploaded to the Submission Website MUST be PDF. If you do not have access to Adobe Acrobat Pro, the following free services are available on the web for converting Word/WordPerfect files to PDF files: CutePDF, PDF995, PDF Online, doPDF, primoPDF, and there may be others.
    4. Submission Website "Notes" Field: Available in Step 4 (Posters) or Step 5 (all Symposia), "Considerations."

      • You may enter a scheduling request in the "Notes" field, Step 5 on the Submission Website. The request must include the reason you cannot present on a particular day/time. We will do our best to accommodate your needs, but, due to the complexity of our scheduling process, we cannot guarantee that your request will be honored.
      • Should your program/project/consortium require that the group name be included on your submission, please enter it in the "Notes" field on the Submission Website. Do not enter this name as an author.
    5. After your submission is finalized, NO revisions may be made. We repeat: After your submission is finalized, NO revisions may be made.

Review Process and Criteria for All Submission Formats

  1. Sufficient empirical data (coded and analyzed, even if not yet complete) or relevant theoretical data must be included in your summary to provide a basis for evaluation of your submission.
  2. Each submission undergoes a blinded review by at least two members of a review panel. No author or other identifying information may be included in your integrative statement or summary unless we have made a specific request for that information.
  3. If two ratings of a submission differ considerably, the panel chair also will rate the submission.
  4. Submissions are reviewed according to the following criteria:

    1. Clarity of formulation/conceptualization
    2. Adequacy of methods
    3. Appropriateness of interpretations
    4. Importance of topic
    5. For multi-presenter formats, we also look for cohesion among presentations, relevance of presentations to the topic, and expression of different views.
    6. Inclusion of elements of the SRCD Strategic Plan is also an important consideration when we are choosing among submissions with equivalent scientific merit. These elements include multidisciplinary, international, and cultural/contextual research.

2011 Submission Rules

  1. Members may submit 3 presenting roles.
  2. Nonmbers may submit 2 presenting roles.

Submitting is the only way that members and nonmembers may establish their 2 or 3 allowable roles. After decision notification, an author may not be added to a submission in a presenting role.

Additional Considerations:
  1. Only presenting roles will be protected from schedule conflicts (see role definitions at left).
  2. There is no limit on the number of co-authors per paper/poster/topic/paced presentation.
    • Roles other than Author 1/Panelist 1 do not count toward the maximum number of submissions.
    • Roles other than Author 1/Panelist 1 are not protected from schedule conflicts.
  3. Multiple presenting roles for an individual in the same submission count as one presenting role.
  4. The same study data may not be submitted in two formats, e.g., as both a poster and symposium presentation.
  5. Membership status: SRCD Membership is not required to submit; however, to comply with the submission rules for a member, your membership must be current for 2010.
