Call for Submissions
The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) invites you to submit for the 2011 SRCD Developmental Science Teaching Institute, to be held in Montréal, Canada, on March 30, 2011.
The Teaching Institute is designed for teachers of developmental courses at all levels who wish to develop strategies for engaging students, to explore new ideas, to update their knowledge base, and to share ideas and perspectives with like-minded professionals.
To accomplish these goals and encompass broad areas of interest for beginning to advanced teachers of developmental science, the Teaching Institute provides two plenary sessions, a variety of breakout sessions, a poster session, and opportunities for interaction and sharing ideas among participants. The diverse presentation formats allow occasions for informal exchange and enable participants to select an agenda that meets their professional development needs.

IMPORTANT: (a) Integrative statements and summaries for submissions accepted for presentation will be published in the 2011 Teaching Institute program and online program schedule. (b) It is essential to recognize that the text you enter for your submission is the text that will appear in the 2011 Teaching Institute program and in the online program schedule.
- You must enter a complete, formal name (e.g., Samuel T. Jones; H. Harrison Smith-Barton) rather than a nickname, current email address, and affiliation for each person. This requirement serves to uniquely identify a person included on your submission and ensures that he/she receives email communication regarding the decision status of the submission.
Data entry and file upload guidelines:
- Titles: Use mixed case (upper-case only for the first letter of all words with 4 or more letters) and appropriate punctuation.
- Integrative Statements and Summaries: Run a spell- and grammar-check in your word-processor, making sure that the "track changes" tool is not active, and all changes are accepted.
File Uploads:
- Make sure that editing has been incorporated into your integrative statements and summaries so that they are in final form.
- NEW: Files uploaded to the Submission Website MUST be PDF. If you do not have access to Adobe Acrobat Pro, the following free services are available on the web for converting Word/WordPerfect files PDF files: CutePDF, PDF995, PDF Online, doPDF, primoPDF, and there may be others.
Submission Website "Notes" Field: Available in Step 4 (Posters) or Step 5 (Symposia), "Considerations."
- Should your program/project/consortium require that the group name be included on your submission, please enter it in the "Notes" field on the Submission Website. Do not enter this name as an author.

| Review Criteria for All Submission Formats |
The purpose of the Teaching Institute is to share information, perspectives and techniques that may positively impact the teaching of developmental science. While preference in the review process is given to submissions with student learning outcomes, we encourage the submission of techniques, demonstrations and discussion issues that would have broad positive impact on the teaching of developmental science. Submissions are reviewed according to the following criteria:
- Relevance of topic to teaching methods, techniques, or pedagogy.
- Clarity of formulation/conceptualization.
- Adequacy of methods (preference is given to submissions with outcomes data).
- Appropriateness of interpretations and suggested classroom/teaching application.
Submissions may be denied review if:
- Submission instructions are not followed.
- The integrative statement or summary exceeds the stated maximum number of pages.
- Material is submitted in two formats, e.g., both as a poster and a roundtable discussion.
- Material was presented elsewhere (including other 2011 SRCD venues) and prior permission was not requested and granted to submit for this meeting.
- The submission involves a commercial product for which the author has a vested interest.
