The SRCD Developmental Science Teaching Institute is designed for teachers of developmental courses at all levels who wish to develop strategies for engaging students, to explore new ideas, to update their knowledge base, and to share ideas and perspectives with like-minded professionals.
To accomplish these goals and encompass broad areas of interest for beginning or advanced teachers of developmental science, the Institute provides two plenaries, a variety of workshops, a poster session, and opportunities for interaction in order to share ideas among participants. The diverse presentation formats allow occasions for informal exchange and enable participants to select an agenda that meets their professional development needs.
Posters and Participant Idea Exchanges (PIEs)
A poster session is scheduled to encourage presentation of topics relevant to the teaching of developmental science and
pedagogical innovation.
Opportunities for sharing ideas and promoting discussion in a
roundtable format allow participants to delve more deeply into areas of interest. Informal discussions of various teaching-related topics submitted and led by participants will take place at specially designated roundtables. Participants are encouraged to propose PIE topics; accepted topics will appear in the conference program in order to allow you to select those of special interest. You may freely join or leave the discussion at each roundtable location as you wish.
The Teaching Institute is held biennially at the SRCD Biennial Meeting. The next Teaching Institute will be held on April 1, 2009, in Denver, Colorado, at the 2009 SRCD Biennial Meeting. Further details will be posted in the fall of 2008.
