Advancing Developmental Science for a Better Future
SRCD is proud to present its FY2025 Annual Report—an overview of a year defined by resilience, growth, collaboration, and continued commitment to improving the lives of children and families through developmental science.
Throughout FY2025, SRCD strengthened its role as a global leader in child development research by expanding support for early career scholars, advancing equity-centered initiatives, deepening engagement with policymakers, and fostering interdisciplinary scientific exchange. Despite a challenging external landscape marked by funding uncertainty and workforce disruptions, SRCD remained focused on serving its members and amplifying research that informs practice and policy worldwide.
Our inaugural annual report highlights the people, programs, partnerships, and progress that shaped the year and positions SRCD for continued impact in 2026 and beyond.
Strengthening Our Community
SRCD’s global membership grew by nearly 18% from FY2024, reaching approximately 4,700 active members across 76 countries. The organization also adopted updated bylaws designed to promote equity, expand student and early career engagement, and sustain strong leadership across all career stages.
Advancing Science & Publications
FY2025 marked a major milestone with SRCD’s new publishing partnership with Oxford University Press beginning in 2026. The organization also launched initiatives to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion in scholarly publishing, including a comprehensive publications equity audit and expanded recognition for research advancing child development in the Majority World.
Investing in Emerging Leaders
SRCD continued to prioritize the next generation of developmental scientists through programs such as:
- Towards 2044: Horowitz Early Career Scholar Program
- LEARN Mentorship Program
- U.S. Policy Fellowship
- SECC Dissertation Research Funding Awards
- Small Grants Program
These initiatives supported scholars across the globe with mentorship, funding, policy experience, and professional development opportunities.
Connecting Research & Policy
SRCD expanded its science advocacy and policy engagement efforts by collaborating with Congressional offices, federal agencies, and coalition partners to advance evidence-based policymaking. Through Child Policy Connect and related initiatives, SRCD strengthened the connection between developmental science and public policy impacting children and families.
Gathering with Purpose
The 2025 SRCD Biennial Meeting in Minneapolis brought together nearly 4,500 researchers, practitioners, students, and policymakers from 63 countries. The meeting emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, global inclusion, and policy-relevant science through keynote sessions, networking events, professional development opportunities, and community celebrations.
