Organizers So Young Choe and James Fryer are excited to announce a new pre-conference on Parenting and Family Dynamics in conjuntion with the 2018 Society for Personality and Social Psychology Annual Meeting.
Parents (and other family caregivers) are essential influences on our social interactions (e.g., friends, romantic relationships, cultural norms) and our personalities (e.g., development over time, genetic and environmental influences). This preconference is intended to provide a broad overview of parenting influences across several areas of social and personality psychology.
The pre-conference is slated to feature several excellent speakers this year:
Jeffry Simpson - The effect of unpredictable early childhood environments on parenting in adulthood
Amy K. Nuttall - Parentification experiences in childhood impact maternal self-esteem and parenting self-efficacy during the transition to parenthood
Douglas M. Teti - Parental mental health, bedtime parenting and coparenting, and infant sleep across the first year
Dylan Gee - Parental influences on frontoamygdala circuitry and emotional development
Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan - Coparenting, fathers’ parenting, and young children's socioemotional development
Thomas Schofield - Parenting among immigrant families: Taking communication for granted
Nairan Ramirez-Esparza - Look who’s talking: Social interactions and language development in monolingual and bilingual infants
Robyn Fivush - Intergenerational narratives and personal identity
Rena Repetti - Naturalistic methods: Opportunities and challenges for the study of parent-child interaction
Robert Larzelere - Methodological problems in parenting research and possibilities for overcoming them
Brent Donnellan - Using longitudinal SEM to study parent-child dynamics (Dr. Donnellan graciously offered to give the attendees R code regarding the method of his talk.)
