Washington, D.C. – The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) announced today that Kelly R. Fisher, Ph.D. has been named the new Director for Policy at SRCD. Dr. Fisher will play an integral role in supporting bridges between science and policy that impact the wellbeing of children and families.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Fisher leading the charge to support engagement of developmental science (and developmental scientists) in child and family policy. Given her vision, drive, and commitment, Dr. Fisher is an exciting addition to the SRCD team,” said Dr. Laura L. Namy, Executive Director of SRCD.

Dr. Fisher comes to SRCD from the Science of Learning Institute at Johns Hopkins University where she served as Executive Director. While at the Institute, Dr. Fisher worked to foster innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to translating science into evidence-informed policies and practices. Her background in developmental science, industrial-organizational psychology, education, and public policy informs her vision and her approach. Dr. Fisher is a former SRCD U.S. Executive Branch Policy Fellow. She served as the Vice President and Director of Research for the Global Abilities Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps individuals with disabilities become independent, productive members of society.

“I’m honored to join the SRCD staff as the new Director for Policy,” said Dr. Fisher. “My work has been driven by a strong commitment to building bridges among science, policy and practice. I look forward to working with my colleagues – in the society and beyond - to support the translation of science into policy and practice to improve human well-being.”

Dr. Fisher received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Temple University and her M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Missouri State University.
