Last Friday, the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade gave states the power to regulate abortions and Utah swiftly put their “trigger law” into effect, effectively banning abortions except in limited circumstances. As many know, the SRCD 2023 Biennial meeting is scheduled for March 23-25 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Governing Council and the 2023 Biennial conference program co-chairs, Gigi Luk (McGill University) and Rashmita Mistry (University of California, Los Angeles), are deeply concerned about holding the Biennial Meeting in a state that limits an individuals right to choose

SRCD biennial meetings typically draw about 6,000 attendees. The dates, locations, and venues for the meetings are chosen more than five years in advance, with several factors in mind. The 2023 Biennial Meeting location was approved in 2018. As such, we are working with internal and external teams researching our options regarding the location of the meeting. For a full list of SRCD biennial meeting locations through 2029, see this page and scroll to “Biennial Meeting Archive.”

We kindly ask for patience as we search for a solution that best serves the developmental science community and will provide updates as they become available.
