Dr. Qing Zhou

Dr. Qing Zhou, Chair

Description

Dr. Qing Zhou is a Professor of Psychology and the Director of Culture and Family Study Lab at University of California Berkeley. Her research focuses on cultural, family, and temperament influences on children's executive functions, socio-emotional, and academic development from preschool to young adulthood. She and her collaborators have conducted longitudinal studies of Chinese children in Asia and children in Chinese and Mexican immigrant families in the U.S. She was a recipient of the Foundation for Child Development Young Scholars Award, and her research has been funded by the National Institute of Health. Dr. Zhou has published over 90 empirical and theoretical articles in developmental, cultural, clinical, and educational science journals and volumes. Dr. Zhou currently serves as an associate editor of Developmental Psychology and a consulting editor of Child Development, Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, and British Journal of Developmental Psychology. Dr. Zhou has been a long-time SRCD member and served on the SRCD International Affairs Committee and Publication Committee. She is currently the Co-Chair of SRCD Publication Committee and Chair-Elect of SRCD Asian Caucus.

Dr. Esther J. Calzada

Dr. Esther J. Calzada

Description

Dr. Esther J. Calzada is the associate dean for equity and inclusion, and the Norma and Clay Leben Professor in Child and Family Behavioral Health at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. She also serves as the Director of the Texas Center for Equity Promotion in the College of Education and holds faculty affiliate positions in the Population Research Center and the Llilas Benson Latin American Studies and Collections, as well as in the Department of Population Health at the New York University School of Medicine. Professor Calzada is a clinical child psychologist with expertise in parenting and early childhood development in Latinx and other minoritized families. She has a strong commitment to scientific equity, working to both elucidate and counter systemic injustices (e.g., race-based discrimination) that undermine healthy development, and recognize and leverage factors that promote (e.g., ethnic identity) the well-being of young children. Professor Calzada serves on the SRCD Governing Council  and as associate editor for the Journal of Latinx Psychology and Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology.  She received her B.A. from Duke University and her Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

Dr. Linda C. Halgunseth

Dr. Linda C. Halgunseth

Description

Linda C. Halgunseth, Ph.D. is an associate professor at Michigan State University in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies and a core faculty member of the Chicano/Latino Studies program.  She conducts research on parenting, parent-child relationships, and child development within and across cultures. She also studies how early childhood programs can engage families from diverse backgrounds in ways that best promotes child learning.  Prior to Michigan State University, she was a faculty member at UConn and Penn State, and headed the Office of Applied Research at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  She was the lead editor of JRA’s special issue titled, “Truth is on the Side of the Oppressed: Systems of Affection BIPOC Youth” and created the first self-report parenting measure specifically designed for use with Mexican Immigrant mothers of children ages 6-10. Dr. Halgunseth is Co-Chair for the 2027 SRCD Biennial Conference in Atlanta, GA.  Her past SRCD service includes being the former Chair of the Latinx Caucus of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD); Co-Chairing SRCD’s 2022-23 Nomination’s Committee; and serving as a member on the Ethnic and Racial Issues Committee (2019-2022) . She received the Early Career Award in Research from the SRCD Latinx Caucus in 2017. Lastly, Dr. Halgunseth has a long history of actively volunteering with historically minoritized families in her community. She earned a BA in psychology and Spanish at the University of Texas at Austin, and a MS and PhD in human development and family studies from the University of Missouri.

Dr. Antoinette M. Landor

Dr. Antoinette M. Landor

Description

Dr. Antoinette M. Landor is an Associate Professor and the Millsap Professor of Diversity and Multicultural Studies in the Department of Human Development and Family Science at the University of Missouri. She is co-founder and Associate Director of the Center for Body Image Research and Policy (CBIRP) and a fellow at the Center for Antiracist Research directed by Ibram X. Kendi. Dr. Landor received a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia and completed a National Institutes of Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the impact of colorism and racism on individual, relational, family health and functioning, and schooling experiences. She also examines how sociocultural factors influence the sexual and romantic relationship behaviors of adolescents and young adults. Her work has appeared in top-tier journals, such as Perspectives on Psychological Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), Journal of Adolescent Health, Journal of Sleep Research, and Journal of Youth and Adolescence and Archives of Sexual Behavior. Additionally, she has presented at domestic and international conferences and has won awards such as the President’s Award for Early Career Excellence from the University of Missouri System and the Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research Award.

Dr. Rebecca M. B. White

Dr. Rebecca M. B. White

Description

Rebecca M. B. White (she/they) is Professor of Family and Human Development in the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics, Arizona State University (ASU), an interdisciplinary unit that incorporates an expansive view of development. They has served on several editorial boards, including Child Development, the Journal of Research on Adolescence, Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, Adolescent Research Review, Developmental Psychology, and the Journal of Youth and Adolescence. Dr. White has a long history of serving SRCD, including as a twice-elected Secretary of the Latinx Caucus and as a member of the Ethnic and Racial Issues Committee. Dr. White has published more than 60 refereed journal articles and made invited contributions to numerous edited volumes. She is proud to have earned an Associate’s degree from New River Community College, a B.S. in Human Services Counseling from Old Dominion University, an M.P.H. in Community Health from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University.
