What is the NIH Public Access Policy?

The 2024 NIH Public Access policy went into effect for articles accepted on or after 1 July 2025. It requires articles (Accepted Manuscript or Version of Record) to be made freely available immediately in PMC (PubMed Central) on publication of the Version of Record.

Who is responsible for complying with the NIH Policy?

Compliance with the NIH Public Access policy is an author’s responsibility and, in some cases, also the author’s institution. Noncompliance with the policy may be considered by the NIH regarding funding decisions for the recipient and their institution. Compliance with the policy is not the responsibility of the SRCD, the publisher managing the journal, or the journal in which the article is accepted for publication. Please see the FAQ page on the NIH website.

How can SRCD authors comply with the NIH Public Access Policy?

Authors in SRCD journals can comply with the NIH policy by publishing their article open access with a creative commons license. OUP will deposit open access articles in PMC and make them available immediately on publication. Please see OUP’s Complying with funder policies page.

Are there any discounts available to SRCD members for costs associated with OA publication?

Corresponding authors who are members of the Society for Research in Child Development may be eligible for 20% discounts on publication charges. Please provide the member identifier when prompted as you submit your manuscript. The open access charge list can be found here
