- Celebrating 20 Years of the SRCD Latinx Caucus: Past, present, and future

The SRCD Latinx Caucus will mark 20 years of advancing a more representative science in Latinx child development research and advocacy. During this pre-conference session, we will celebrate our past, present, and future. To honor our past, founding members of the Latinx Caucus will reflect on the Latinx Caucus’ origins, with additional contributions from other key individuals in the Caucus’s history. To celebrate our present, we will spotlight Caucus members’ accomplishments in the areas of advancing Latinx child development research, building the capacity of Latinx developmental scholars, and elevating our voices through positions of leadership in developmental science. To launch the next chapter in the Caucus’s future, we will collectively discuss areas where Latinx Caucus members should focus their attention spanning

Organizing Committee: SRCD Student & Early Career Council (SECC)
First-time Biennial attendees are welcome to join this reception to learn how to maximize their conference experience. Since the first meeting held in 1934, SRCD has hosted a Biennial meeting on odd-numbered years for its members and the developmental science community. Through its Biennial meetings, which draw attendees from countries throughout the world, SRCD strives to meet the goal of understanding child development through research while serving as a network and forum for its members and attendees, as stated in SRCD’s strategic goals. Members and attendees include professionals and graduate students in psychology, human development, family studies, education, public policy, sociology, social work, psychiatry, pediatrics, and public health. Attendance at the Biennial meetings averages 4,500 people.

- SRCD Latinx Caucus Business Meeting

Current and prospective members are invited to attend the Latinx Caucus Business Meeting. We will celebrate the accomplishments of the Caucus over the past year, including updates and announcements from our nine subcommittees. We will present the winners of our Latinx Caucus Dissertation, Early Career, and Mid-Career awards. We also will be honoring one of our members with the prestigious Raymond Buriel Distinguished Leadership Award. Join us in thanking our outgoing Steering Committee and welcoming our newly elected Steering Committee who will lead us in the 2025-2027 term. The meeting will conclude with reflections from our outgoing Chair and comments from our new Chair as we look ahead to the next chapter in the Latinx Caucus’s history. The Business Meeting is a great opportunity to meet other Caucus members and learn how you can get more involved in the Caucus. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

- Righting the Wrongs of Developmental Science: The Case of Minoritized Populations

This invited session honors the seminal contributions Dr. Cynthia Garcia Coll’s research has made over her 50-year career that aim to right the wrongs of development science. The session will begin with Dr. Garcia Coll reflecting on the historical context of her work. Three developmental scholars will then briefly present how their own work exemplifies the legacy of Dr. Garcia Coll’s work in the following areas: children of immigrants and the immigrant paradox, the integrated model, and the role of cultural context. The session will conclude with an open discussion.

SRCD Latinx Caucus 20th Anniversary Pachanga: A 20 Year Anniversary Event will celebrate the past, present, and future of the SRCD Latinx Caucus. There will be food, music, dancing, and so many reasons to celebrate!

The National Research Center on Hispanic Children & Families and the SRCD Latinx Caucus are excited to host a mentoring and networking event aimed at promoting the growth of emerging scholars. This event will connect students and early-career professionals with experienced mentors who are leaders in the field, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations and professional development.
Participants will engage in informal discussions covering a range of topics, including grant writing and fundraising, navigating academic and non-academic career paths, strategies for productivity in graduate school, and best practices for conducting research on Hispanic populations. The event is designed to encourage group interactions, allowing mentees to gain insights not only from mentors but also from their peers.
