SRCD signed on to a Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) letter that requests a funding increase for the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Fiscal Year 2022. Addressed to the Chair and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies of the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, the letter recognizes NSF’s role in COVID-19 response and recovery, highlights the need to invest in NSF research and workforce programs (e.g., K-12 STEM education), and encourages Congress to support NSF’s scientific facilities, infrastructure, and workforce development efforts.

Further, the letter notes “NSF engineering, social and behavioral science work underpins our vaccine delivery technology and public understanding of risk. As NSF supports 25 percent of all federally funded academic fundamental research at our nation’s colleges and universities, the agency will play a key role in rebuilding our economy after the pandemic and ensure that we are better prepared for the next public health crisis.”

The Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) is an alliance of more than 140 professional organizations, scientific societies, universities, and businesses united in their advocacy for the National Science Foundation (NSF). The Society for Research in Child Development is a CNSF member.
