SRCD is proud to be hosting one of our upcoming Special Topics Meetings, Construction of the ‘Other’: Development, Consequences, and Applied Implications of Prejudice and Discrimination, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico on May 4-6.  The organizers have been hard at work on a program that highlights interdisciplinary research to understand how prejudice and discrimination are developed, socialized, and manifested, as well as promising policy and intervention programs that can help prevent prejudice and/or buffer the effects of marginalization.

The recent earthquake and powerful aftershocks in Puerto Rico are bringing renewed attention to the island. As such, both the organizers and staff have received inquiries about the status of the meeting, and about how SRCD members and attendees might support the residents of Puerto Rico.

The meeting is being held at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Resort, which is in the northeastern region of the island and has not been affected by the recent earthquakes. We are receiving regular updates from the resort, and it is fully open and welcoming guests to its 500-acre property.

Meeting organizers are exploring ways for meeting attendees to offer support to children and families affected by the earthquakes and the ongoing humanitarian crisis on the island. Information will be posted on the event website and during the meeting as it becomes available.

We are very saddened to witness the devastation experienced by children and families in Puerto Rico following the recent earthquakes, and we stand in awe of their resilience. Our hearts go out to those struggling to rebuild.

We and the organizers hope you will consider joining us in supporting Puerto Rico while attending this relevant and important meeting.
