I hope you and those close to you are staying safe and healthy as you read this. It has been a challenging summer for many, particular for children. Our hearts are with all the children impacted by the recent wave of the COVID-19 Delta variant and the children affected by the violence in Afghanistan.
Now more than ever, SRCD’s research and programs to support children has become increasingly important. I’m pleased to share some of our recent and upcoming activities.
- The Society recently endorsed the Coalition for the Advancement and Application of Psychological Science’s (CAAPS) position statement that calls for the elimination of the use of Rapid-Onset Gender Dysphoria ROGD) for clinical and diagnostic purposes.
- SRCD launched the Diversity Reviewer Database to help increase the diversity of developmental scientists taking part in the review of research proposals at federal agencies and foundations. Learn how you can sign up to be a reviewer.
- In September, SRCD will be announcing our 2021-2022 Federal Policy and State Policy Fellows. The fellowships provide immersive opportunities for researchers to learn about policy development, implementation, and evaluation, and how to use developmental science to inform public policy at either the federal or state level in the United States. Read first-hand accounts of fellowship experiences.
- Finally, I encourage you to review the application for the Victoria S. Levin Award for Early Success in Young Children’s Mental Health Research and consider if you or someone you know may be a good fit for this opportunity. The award provides up to $25,000 for pre-tenured, early to mid-career investigators and applications are due October 1, 2021 by 11:59pm Eastern.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at shedrick@srcd.org.
Best,
