2023 Other Affiliated Events Descriptions

Aside from the invited and submitted program, there are numerous formal and informal opportunities for networking and learning about the latest developments in the field. The biennial meetings provide an opportunity for child development professionals and other researchers to connect and exchange information and ideas. Please see below for other opportunities offered. Note that these events are not sponsored by SRCD.

SEAS' Attachment SRCD Pre-conference

Event Name: SEAS' Attachment SRCD Pre-conference

Event Description: This is a 100% online ZOOM event. The morning session (10:30 am -12:30pm) will begin with a talk on cultural critiques of Attachment Theory to be delivered by Everett Waters and Morris Eagle, with Kazuko Behrens, Marian Bakersman-Kranenburg, & Audrey-Ann Deneault serving as discussants. To be followed by an open discussion. There will be a 60- minute lunch break 12:30-1:30pm. 

The afternoon session (1:30pm - 3:30pm) will start with the 3 circa 18-minute prerecorded presentations from colleagues in UK, Sweden and Germany who are actively involved in research on understanding how well, or poorly, child welfare practitioners understand attachment theory and research. To be followed by an open discussion of all the day's presentations. 

The day will begin with a tribute to Mary Main (who died on 6th January 2023), and no doubt speakers, discussants, and those raising questions will make tribute to Mary's monumental contributions to our field. 

We will conclude with words of respect for the enduring legacy of Mary Main.

Event Description: For our in-person attendees, lunch and beverages (i.e., coffee, tea, and water) are included. In-person participation will begin at 12:00PM Mountain Time in the Salt Palace Convention Center. We will begin with lunch so that those of you flying in Wednesday morning have some flexibility in getting to the Convention Center and don't have to worry about getting a meal after traveling!

Event Description: We are continuing our 20-year tradition of providing an opportunity for those who work in the Bowlby-Ainsworth tradition of attachment study and training to renew friendships. The reception also provides an opportunity for young researchers to meet more senior colleagues in an informal setting. As in past years, presentation of the biennial Bowlby-Ainsworth Awards will be a highlight of the reception. Format will be informal.
